The Redstone model railroad club had its beginnings in the late 50's and ultimately became incorporated in 1964. In this same timeframe the garrison allocated a building for our use and the first layout was constructed. After a few years the army decided to demolish that structure and we were allocated a second building. A new larger layout was started and quickly neared completion. At this point fate stepped in and our building was destroyed in the super tornado outbreak of 1974. One picture shows the one remaining wall laying on the foundation. Fortunately, within two years, the army allocated a third building to us in 1976 which is still our current home. As before, a new layout was quickly started and ran for over 25 years. In 2003 it was decided to start over with a new updated layout using digital controls. Construction began in 2006 and is still in use today. Early membership was in the 60+ range and has varied up and down to our current of about 30. The club recently celebrated its 50th (2014) and 60th (2024) anniversaries since incorporation.
